Μέλος της Ομάδας των ‘Έξη’ (μαζί με τους Milhaud, Auric, Honegger, Tailleferre, Durey) επηρεασμένος από τον Eric Satie – “μέντορα” της ομάδας – αλλά και από τον Stravinsky, ο Γάλλος συνθέτης Francis Poulenc (1899-1963) κράτησε πάντα επιφυλακτική στάση απέναντι στην “πρωτοπορία” της εποχής του, αναπτύσοοντας ένα εκλεκτικό προσωπικό ιδίωμα, με το χιούμορ και μια παιγνιώδη, “ασεβή” διάθεση χαρακτηριστικά των νεανικών του συνθέσεων. Τα παραπάνω αντισταθμίζονται από τη μουσική που έγραψε από τα ’30s και μετά, με προεξάρχοντα θρησκευτικά έργα όπως το Gloria (για σοπράνο, χορωδία και ορχήστρα) από το οποίο ακούμε 2 μέρη.

A member of ‘Les Six’ (along with Milhaud, Auric, Honegger, Tailleferre, Durey) influenced by Eric Satie – “mentor” of the group – but also by Stravinsky, French composer Francis Poulenc (1899-1963) always kept a cautious attitude towards the “avant-garde” of the time, developing an eclectic personal idiom, with humor and a playful, “irreverent” mood defining his youthful compositions. To a large extent the above is balanced by the music he wrote from the ‘30s onward, especially religious works such as Gloria (for soprano, choir and orchestra) from which we hear 2 parts.
