On April, 12…

Αυτό χάρη στην “ποπ” πλευρά του [“I Thought It Was You”, “Rockit”, ηχογραφήσεις με Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon κλπ.] “Watermelon Man” στην version του Headhunters [1973]. “The Naked Camera” από το soundtrack του Blow-Up [1967]. “Jessica” στη live έκδοση από το μνημειώδες V.S.O.P. The Quintet [1977] και τέλος, “Succotash” από το modal άλμπουμ του, Inventions & Dimensions [1963]

On this date, 80 years ago, the great pianist and composer Herbie Hancock was born in Chicago. He is one of jazz’s few truly “recognizable” contemporary musicians, thanks to his “pop” side [“I Thought It Was You”, “Rockit”, recordings with Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon etc.] which of course is the icing, in a career full of classic albums and historical collaborations, starting with Miles Davis’ Second Great Quintet (1964-68). The selections: “One Finger Snap” from his most important album for Blue Note, Empyrean Isles [1964]. “Watermelon Man” in the Headhunters version [1973]. “The Naked Camera” from his soundtrack for Antonioni’s Blow-Up [1967]. “Jessica” in the live version from the monumental V.S.O.P. The Quintet [1977] and finally, “Succotash” from his modal album Inventions & Dimensions [1963]
Happy Birthday H.H.!

More about these reblogs
Lately I have been rebloging music videos from Oannes new blog. For my friends who didn’t know, or wonder why…. Oannes [aka Socratis Papahatzis] is my husband, partner in life and music and the one with my undying admiration. Together we have a band MK-O [the music of Marina Kanavaki & Oannes]. So, it’s my pleasure to share with you his [and mine] musical selections. • Although here I reblog mainly his musical selections, he writes exceptional articles on various topics [some may need translation], so do visit his site. He has my highest recommendation!
