Some Characters still haunt me…

Character #22[P] © marina kanavaki
Technique: Ink on paper
Original size: 13x23cm
from my solo exhibition in 1999 at Epohes Gallery: “CHARACTERS”
As always… details from the painting,
however this one was photographed on my mobile and it was also framed, so details look somewhat weird, but I kinda like that, so I left them unedited. 😉

And this …haunting was triggered by Trent’s birthday yesterday when I was revisiting his music!
Came Back Haunted
Nine Inch Nails
and one thing leads to another…
Haunted
Gary Numan
Happy Monday!
Enjoy!

Stay Safe!

These are definitely haunting and mysterious, Marina. I see faces, arms, and a leg. 🙂 Not sure if my perspective is spot on, though…Wonderful work, my friend…❤❤❤

Ah, thank you so much, my dear Lauren. That’s why I like blowing up details. More images emerge! The painting is a face but when you see details, more elements appear! Many many hugs and love! xoxoxo

This is beautiful, Marina. I always marvel how abstract art evokes emotion from an almost subconscious place. And the practice of revisiting works to discover something new each time is always worthwhile. The fine arts demand it 😉 Your application of red here is perfect! And I love your updated photo…and those shades! xoxoxo

Oh, thank you so much, Mary Jo. It is really interesting revisiting work with the momentum that created it gone and I always like to check on images within a painting’s details…
I’m so happy you enjoyed this journey, it means very much to me.
On photo… awww thank you, it was long overdue! 🤗😘🤗😘🤗

I like the sepia tint. Red on black was never my fav color combo. Since the 90s it has been overused in Canada, I think to ill effect. 😃

I know what you mean, however with the years I’m seeing beauty in all colors. Sometimes I even like to use ‘unlikely’ combinations to realize that it’s all about the how it’s used…
Thank you, my friend.

It’s interesting how different cultures have different ‘nice’ color filters. Indians all wore brown, for instance. A UK student once insensitively said “they have no style!” Meanwhile, here in Ontario our trillium logo was always green and white in the 60s and 70s. Now it’s always black on white. A really ugly change that signifies more than mere color preference, imo!

I see what you mean. With art though it’s different. Nothing to do with popularity/fashion etc. Sure, a painter can be influenced by the light and images of his surroundings but the colors come from inside usually.

I think if we’ve broken thru we can access more ‘channels’ as it were re artistic influences. But I still think most maybe all of us have a limited set. Even pioneers and groundbreakers arguably fit within some kind of matrix. There could be exceptions, tho. Art is a lot like revelation, imo. 😰😨😌

The central detail made me think of an insect’s leg.

A ha ha .. I don’t think I want to know which one! 😉 That’s why I like showing details… to see inages within images! 🙂

The details are always so interesting, but the whole drawing was very powerful. The music is almost intentionally harsh and depressing. The drawings are much finer.

I love working to dark and depressing music …I really do! 😉 [and this is not …that depressing, is it?! Well… not exactly cheery either huh?!!!! 😉 ]
So glad you enjoyed it, my friend!

Don’t worry, I didn’t get permanently lost. But while I was lost, I was having a very good time. I like your shades.

Beautiful artwork details. Love this, Marina.
I was listening to Iron Maiden on Oannes when I brought this post up.
That was great fun.
Love the Nine Inch Nails song. They are so very cool. The other vid is unavailable here.
Excellent!

Definitely haunting. Memory is telling me these are from a much earlier time – but I’m not sure. However, I may be seeing the early beginnings of your wonderful swoosh. …. and I like the new gravatar. Nice sunglasses. 🙂

Yes… they are from my first solo exhibition in 1999 [Characters]
Well, as much as I liked the young me, I had to update it 20+ years later! Thank you! Oannes always helps me pick the nicest sunglasses!

Thanks for the tip for the 21st. We are stuck in a rain pattern so time will tell if the sky clears by then. BTW – With age also comes more class. 🙂 Fabulous pic.

Ahhhh…. rain is expected here too
from tomorrow …that is, after a scorching out-of-season heatwave!
A ha ha… so it’s “class” now huh?! 😉
Thank you though. I was happy because I was walking my favorite hill with a doggy! 😉
