Ένα διάλειμμα από τα μπλουζ, για να ακούσουμε τον Beethoven να “προαναγγέλλει” την ragtime music… 77 χρόνια πριν από το “Maple Leaf Rag” του Scott Joplin, σε ένα στιγμιότυπο από το τελευταίο μέρος της τελευταίας σονάτας του για πιάνο.
Δεν είναι σκόπιμο να αμφισβητήσει κανείς την επίσημη αφήγηση περί προέλευσης του rag από τα μαρς, το cakewalk κλπ.. Απλώς …εδώ ακούγεται τρόπον τινά ολοκληρωμένο, σαν ο LVB να ρίχνει μια κλεφτή “ματιά” σε ένα μελλοντικό πάρτι.
Η πιθανότης να μην το είχε ακούσει ο [δάσκαλος πιάνου] Scott Joplin είναι μάλλον ανύπαρκτη. Φιλοδοξία του τελευταίου, άλλωστε, όπως προβάλλει σε έργα σαν την [λίαν αξιόλογη] όπερα “Treemonisha” ήταν να είναι ένας “αξιοσέβαστος κλασικός συνθέτης”.
Ακούμε λοιπόν το δεύτερο και τελευταίο μέρος Arietta. Adagio molto semplice e cantabile της σονάτας Νο 32 του LVB. Ερμηνεύει ο Maurizio Pollini.

A break from the blues, to listen Beethoven “anticipating” ragtime music… 77 years before Scott Joplin‘s “Maple Leaf Rag”, on a section of the last part of his final piano sonata. It is not appropriate to question the official narrative of rag’s origin from marches, cakewalk etc. It’s just that it sounds in full-form here, as if the Master had popped in and thrown a stolen “look” at a future party.
The likeness of [piano teacher] Scott Joplin not having heard of this is rather non-existent. The latter’s ambition, after all, as it emerges in works such as the [remarkable] opera “Treemonisha” was to be a “respectable classical composer”.
So we hear the second and final part Arietta. Adagio molto semplice e cantabile from LVB’s sonata No. 32. Performed by Maurizio Pollini.
