Ο φτωχικά ντυμένος κύριος που βλέπουμε στην εικόνα [κάτω], ανήκε σε μια απ’ τις πλουσιότερες οικογένειες της Ευρώπης : είναι ο Paul Wittgenstein, αδελφός του Ludwig και διάσημος σολίστ της εποχής του. Μια ιδέα του οικονομικού / κοινωνικού του status παίρνει κανείς απ’ το ότι, έχοντας χάσει το δεξί του χέρι στη διάρκεια του Α’ΠΠ, ανέθεσε σε ομάδα διασήμων συνθετών [Strauss, Hindemith, Britten, Prokofiev, Ravel etc.] να γράψουν έργα με τα οποία θα μπορούσε να συνεχίσει τη συναυλιακή του σταδιοδρομία.
Ακούμε το διασημότερο από εκείνα που προέκυψαν : το Κονσέρτο Για Αριστερό Χέρι του Maurice Ravel. Η πρεμιέρα του έργου έγινε το 1932. Ο Ravel είναι ένα ακόμα μέλος του March-born musicians club.
Σολίστ στην ηχογράφηση που ακούμε [2010] ο Pierre-Laurent Aimard. Μαζί του η Συμφωνική του Κλίβελαντ υπό τον Pierre Boulez.

The poorly dressed gentleman we see in the picture, belonged to one of the richest families in Europe : he is Paul Wittgenstein, brother of Ludwig and a famous concert pianist of the time. One gets an idea of his economic / social status from the fact that, having lost his right hand on the WWI front, he commissioned a group of famous composers [Strauss, Hindemith, Britten, Prokofiev, Ravel, etc.] to write works with which he could continue his career.
We hear the most famous among the ones that emerged : Maurice Ravel’s Concerto for the left hand, premiered in 1932. Ravel is another member of the March-born musicians club.
Pierre-Laurent Aimard is the soloist on the recording we hear [2010]. The Cleveland Symphony Orchestra is conducted by Pierre Boulez.
