Η συνεργασία των δυο μουσικών πραγματοποιήθηκε με πρωτοβουλία και “προξενιό” της γυναίκας του Frank Zappa, Gayle. Οι επιφυλάξεις του Pierre Boulez θα εξανεμίζονταν μετά από κάποιες ακροάσεις, και φυσικά τη γνωριμία του με τον Frank, του οποίου η προσωπικότητα και η καλλιτεχνική εποπτεία έδειξαν να τον εντυπωσιάζουν. Εννοείται ότι ο FZ έτρεφε ήδη εκτίμηση για τον συνθέτη & μαέστρο.
Αποτέλεσμα ήταν το ανεπανάληπτο κυριολεκτικά και μεταφορικά άλμπουμ, Boulez Conducts Zappa : The Perfect Stranger του 1984, από το οποίο ακούμε το ομώνυμο κομμάτι. [Στην πραγματικότητα 3 μόνο απ’ τα 7 κομμάτια του άλμπουμ φέρουν τη σφραγίδα του PB, μεταξύ των οποίων αυτό]

The two musicians’ collaboration took place on the initiative and “matchmaking” of Frank Zappa’s wife, Gayle. Pierre Boulez’s reservations would vanish after some auditions, and of course his acquaintance with Frank, whose personality and artistic supervision seemed to impress him. It goes without saying that FZ already had an appreciation for the composer & conductor.
The result was the unique, literally and metaphorically, album Boulez Conducts Zappa : The Perfect Stranger – 1984, from which we hear the title track. [In fact, only 3 of 7 album’s tracks bear PB’s seal, this one among them]
