Διαλέγουμε μια δική του σύνθεση “Lament For Booker”, από το άλμπουμ Double Take που κυκλοφόρησε με τον Woody Shaw το 1985. Στο φλάουτο ο Kenny Garrett, πιάνο ο Mulgrew Miller. Στη συνέχεια, το επίσης δικό του “The Melting Pot”, από το άλμπουμ Blue Spirits που κυκλοφόρησε ως leader το ’68. Joe Henderson – τενόρο σαξόφωνο, Harold Malbern – πιάνο. Τέλος μια ακόμα σύνθεση του FH, “The Core”, από το άλμπουμ των Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, Free For All, 1964. Στο τενόρο ο Wayne Shorter, στο πιάνο ο Cedar Walton.

On this date, April 7, 1938, Freddie Hubbard was born in Indianapolis, Indiana – one of the greatest trumpeters in the history of jazz. Apart from his several albums as leader, it’s easier maybe to list the top musicians of his time he didn’t work with, than the other way around. We choose a composition of his own, “Lament For Booker”, from the album Double Take he released with Woody Shaw in 1985. On flute, Kenny Garrett, Mulgrew Miller on piano. “The Melting Pot” is also written by him, it comes from the album Blue Spirits he released as leader in 1968. Joe Henderson – tenor saxophone, Harold Malbern – piano. Finally, another FH composition, “The Core”, from the Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers album, Free For All, 1964. On tenor, Wayne Shorter, Cedar Walton on piano.

More about these reblogs

Lately I have been rebloging music videos from Oannes new blog. For my friends who didn’t know, or wonder why…. Oannes [aka Socratis Papahatzis] is my husband, partner in life and music and the one with my undying admiration. Together we have a band MK-O [the music of Marina Kanavaki & Oannes]. So, it’s my pleasure to share with you his [and mine] musical selections. Although here I reblog mainly his musical selections, he writes exceptional articles on various topics [some may need translation], so do visit his site. He has my highest recommendation!
