Oannes podcast / tribute to Richard Strauss!

Σαν σήμερα, 11 Ιουνίου 1864, στο Μόναχο, γεννήθηκε ο συνθέτης και διευθυντής ορχήστρας Richard Strauss, “η μεγαλύτερη” σύμφωνα με τον Glenn Gould “μουσική φυσιογνωμία του 20ου αιώνα”.
Συνέθεσε το πρώτο του έργο στην ηλικία των 6. Περνώντας, νεώτατος ακόμα, από την επιρροή των Schumann – Brahms σ’ εκείνην των Liszt – Wagner, θα γινόταν ο πιο διάσημος εκπρόσωπος της “νέας μουσικής” στα τέλη του 19ου και τις αρχές του 20ου αιώνα. Αυτό χάρη κυρίως σε μια σειρά από συφωνικά ποιήματα – tone poems, αλλά και όπερες, συμφωνική μουσική και μουσική δωματίου. Ανάμεσα στα πολλά που μπορούν να ειπωθούν γι’ αυτόν, είναι ότι, η αισθητική της “κινηματογραφικής μουσικής” χρωστάει τα μέγιστα στο ηρωικό πνεύμα και την ηχητική πολυτέλεια των συμφωνικών του ποιημάτων. Υπεύθυνος άλλωστε γι’ αυτό, ήταν ο συνθέτης με την μεγαλύτερη επιρροή στην μoυσική του Χόλιγουντ, ο Erich Wolfgang Korngold – απόστολος του Strauss.
Ακούμε αποσπάσματα από τα συμφωνικά του ποιήματα Aus Italien, Don Quixote, Ein Heldenleben. On this date, June 11, 1864, the composer and conductor Richard Strauss was born in Munich. According to Glen Gould, “he was the greatest musical figure of the 20th century”. He wrote his first work at 6. Passing, still new, from Schumann’s, Brahms’ influence to that of Liszt’s & Wagner’s, he would become the most famous representative of “new music” in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This thanks mainly to a series of tone poems, and also operas, symphonic and chamber music.
Among so many things that can be said about him is that the aesthetics of “cinematic music” owe a lot to the heroic spirit and the sonic luxury of his music. After all, the most influential film composer of all time, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, was a devoted Straussian…
