American modernist Elliott Carter was a relentlessly creative composer, one of the most important of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century. He gradually developed a strictly personal style, moving from his initial influences [Stravinsky, Hindemith, Ives, Copeland]. A man of unusual endurance, Elliott Carter would become increasingly productive in the last years of his life. He completed his last work in 2012, three months before his death at 104.
We hear Elegy for String Orchestra, an early ’50s composition, and one of its relatively “fordable”.
