Η άποψη του Wagner για τον Giacomo Meyerbeer, διατυπωμένη στο θεωρητικό του σύγγραμμα “Όπερα Και Δράμα” ήταν ότι αποτελούσε ένα είδος εμπορικής καρικατούρας του Rossini.
Η γνώμη του Chopin για τον Γερμανο-Εβραίο * συνθέτη ήταν τελείως διαφορετική : παρών στην πρεμιέρα της Όπεράς του “Ροβέρτος Ο Διάβολος” την είχε χαρακτηρίσει αριστούργημα, συνέθεσε μάλιστα σε συνεργασία με τον βιολοντσελίστα Auguste Franchomme ένα ντουέτο βασισμένο σε θέματά της. Αυτό ακούμε εδώ, από τους Vittorio Ceccanti – τσέλο και Duccio Ceccanti – πιάνο.
*Η εβραϊκή καταγωγή αποτελούσε πιθανώς αιτία του μένους του RW εναντίον ενός “συνάδελφου” ο οποίος, σημειωτέον, τον είχε βοηθήσει στα πρώτα βήματά του στο Παρίσι. Ας μην ξεχνάμε το προγενέστερο βιβλίο του “Ο Εβραϊσμός στη Μουσική” όπου επίσης επιτίθεται εναντίον [του Μέντελσον και] του Meyerbeer, χωρίς όμως να τον κατονομάζει.

Wagner’s view of Giacomo Meyerbeer, expressed in his theoretical book “Opera And Drama” was that of a commercial caricature of Rossini.
Chopin had a totally different opinion about the German-Jewish * composer : present at the premiere of his opera “Robert the Devil” he had evaluated it as it a masterpiece. He also composed, in collaboration with cellist Auguste Franchomme a duet based on the opera’s themes. That ’s the work we hear, performed by Vittorio Ceccanti – cello and Duccio Ceccanti – piano.
*Jewish ancestry was probably the cause of RW’s rage against a “colleague” who, it should be noted, had helped him in his first steps in Paris. Let’s not forget his earlier book “Judaism in Music” where he also attacks [Mendelssohn and] Meyerbeer, without naming him.
