In 1940, choreographer Frederick Ashton commissioned William Walton for a one-act ballet based on Bach’s music, arranged by the British composer. Its theme would be the Parable of Ten Virgins.
The source of ‘Sheep May Safely Graze’ which we hear from the ballet is JSB’s Cantata No. 208.
