Ένας από τους μεγαλύτερους Ρώσους συνθέτες του 19ου αι., και από τους μεγαλύτερους ενορχηστρωτές στην ιστορία ανεξαρτήτως εθνικότητας, ο Ρίμσκι – Κόρσακοφ, μέλος της ομάδας των “Πέντε”, υπήρξε βασική κινητήρια δύναμη της ρωσικής εθνικής μουσικής σχολής και δημιουργός ενός υψηλών αξιώσεων, τεράστιου σε όγκο έργου : συμφωνική μουσική και μουσική δωματίου, χορωδιακή – κοσμική και θρησκευτική [αν και …άθεος] μουσική για σόλο όργανα, κύκλοι τραγουδιών και 15 όπερες. Ακούμε τρία οργανικά αποσπάσματα, Εισαγωγή και δυο Ιντερλούδια από την όπερα ‘Η Υπηρέτρια του Pskov’ – εναλλακτικός τίτλος : ‘Ιβάν Ο Τρομερός’.

One of the greatest Russian composers of the 19th century, and one of the greatest orchestrators in history regardless of nationality, Rimsky – Korsakov, a member of the group of “The Five“, was a main driving force of the Russian national music school, and creator of a highly acclaimed, vast body of work : symphonic and chamber music, choral – secular and religious [although an atheist] music for solo instruments, song cycles and 15 operas. We hear three instrumental excerpts, Overture and two Interludes, from the opera ‘Maid Of Pskov’ – alternative title : ‘Ivan The Terrible’.
